Costco Kewpie Mayo

Post by LaPan »

It’s not the same as found in most Asian markets. It’s made differently and made in the USA.

Interesting. I've been trying to understand more about Kewpie lately, and this article helped:

https://www.bonappetit.com/story/what-is-kewpie

There's one detail I'm still not clear about, though: Is Kewpie a specific brand name, or is the term more like "sriracha," a generic name for a product that can be made by many companies?

I wouldn’t print it without checking, but I’m pretty sure it’s analogous to Kleenex — a specific brand name that is often used colloquially to describe other brands with a similar style.

Thanks. I guess Kewpie is to Japanese mayonnaise as Kleenex is to tissues. This analogy was brought to you by the letter K.
