A quick update after a trip to Mekong Plaza last night. The family wanted the familiar Cantonese favorites of the flagship restaurant, Mekong Palace, but I took the opportunity to note a few recents arrivals and departures:
  • Taiwan Express has closed.
  • Kingo Bowl has closed. It was an interesting place because it combined sous vide technique with food court convenience. I enjoyed the guiydon and other dishes I tried there, but apparently it wasn't enough to sustain the concept.
  • A new place devoted to bao, steamed buns, is going into the high-turnover spot where Kingo Bowl was located.
  • At the shopping center across the street, there are still no signs of life at the purported H-Mart site. It's been a few years now since it was reported that the Korean grocery giant would open in the anchor space there. There is life at both ends of the shopping center with Asian Cafe Express on the east side and Po Chicken on the west, but it's still a dead zone in between.

Quick update:

The Bao place is still in the works, but looks pretty far along.

Xian Fusing Cafe has opened ("softly" -- see photo) in the space formerly occupied by Taiwan Express. The menu appears to be still Taiwanese.
