Re: Temptations Cafe
When I added this to the map, I noticed the full name is listed as "Temptations Cafe by Pandesal Republik." That sounds vaguely Filipino, an impression reinforced by the ube brownies. The idea of diner food with a Filipino touch reminds me of Ludi's in Seattle. https://seattle.eater.com/20...

Re: Anything good at Westgate?
Oh well, gonna have to try those recommended when I’m not with a group. I mentioned a bunch of them but NakedQ was the vote. And it was just okay for me. With all the great bbq joints we have, this wouldn’t make the grade. With apologies to the Stones, … I said I know it's only NakedQ but I like it...

Re: Anything good at Westgate?
I found myself at Westgate last night. Los Arbolitos de Cajeme looked good, but family had other ideas. We ate at the Lola, mentioned above. We started with some Buffalo cauliflower, and I had penne in vodka sauce. Both were well prepared, even it they can be found on countless menus all over town. ...

Re: Recommendations for good duck in the east valley?
Last night, The Windsor's "chef special" was duck confit served with lentils, fig compote, and salad. It was somewhat out of character for the Windsor, which I normally consider a place for burgers and fried chicken, but it was quite good, especially for a price just a little over $20. IMG...

Shrimp
My usual source of shrimp, the Wild Shrimp company, has stopped selling at local farmers markets. What's everyone favorite source? The ones I find at the grocery are usually farmed. The wild ones I've gotten at places like Nelson's are great, but they usually not peeled and deveined, a convenience I...

Re: Bar Cena
The world needs more small desserts. I like to finish a meal with a sweet taste, but a little goes a long way.

Re: East Side Gyro spots?
Definitely agree on Med Fresh and Haji-Baba. I also like Phoenicia, which has locations in both Tempe and Gilbert. It's interesting and a little disappointing that Med Fresh, which is Turkish, is now referring to what they serve as gyros rather than doner. I guess too few people were familiar with t...

Re: Buqui Bichi (Downtown Phx)
I recently tried the downtown location and ordered the carne asada tacos. Interestingly, I received not only the three meat tacos advertised but also a bonus taco full of refried beans. I'd say the tacos were good but not great. The tortillas were somewhat flaccid, but the meat was tender and flavor...

Re: Bad Jimmy's Burgers
Both of the regular burgers, the classic double and the double burger, are great. Their names make them hard to distinguish, but they differ in the way they handle onions (raw vs. caramelized) and the condiments. A menacing sign at the counter says "no modifications," but I've seen poeple ...

Re: Ficelle in Phoenix?
Trader Joe's sell frozen six packs of mini baguettes that have the same narrow diameter as ficelle. https://www.traderjoes.com/home/products/pdp/mini-french-baguettes-062839 https://www.thekitchn.com/trader-joes-mini-french-baguettes-review-23626500 I wish I could refer you to a local bakery that se...
