Re: I want to buy a cow

What side of the valley are you on? There's a place on
Thunderbird, West of 67th ave that has a sign out saying "Natural Beef for Sale". Might be worth checking out.

Re: Instant Pot pressure cooker

I really like mine. Got it a couple months ago, before Thanksgiving, and actually made three of the side dishes with it. It can cut the times on a lot of dishes, and it does wonders on tough meats. Using it to steam the potatoes makes REALLY good mashers in much less time. Since it has a saute funct...

Re: Where to get a Christmas Stollen?

Found Karl's.

A bit hidden away on the side of the complex, but a reward for the search.

Have a stollen, and a bag of pfeffernussen. Life is good. Wife is happy.

If the stollen disappears too quickly, I think that a stop by Casa
Philippine will be in order.

Re: Where to get a Christmas Stollen?

All Right!!!!! The last I'd heard (last year), Karl's had closed, and the prospect of reopening wasn't good, but that was a far distant from the source rumour. Wife is very much into the stollen from Karl's as a long time family Holiday tradition. Doing one myself is an interesting prospect, but I'm...

Where to get a Christmas Stollen?

Last year, we had to do without, since Karl's at 7th and Dunlap had closed.

Does anyone have any recommendations for finding one as good as theirs?

Preferably Central Phoenix or West side, but I can go to Scottsdale if necessary.

Thanks

Although, if they were able to come up with a grasshopper that tasted like bacon, the species would be listed as "endangered" within months. :)

Re: Pie help

Simple, easy solution from my Grandmother:

When using a crust that is blind-baked, when doing the 'final' bake, put a strip of aluminum foil around the exposed crust edge to keep from burning it.

You can get metal or silicone rings that do the same job, if you want to get "fancy".

Re: Payson Area Restaurants

On the way North from Payson towards Flagstaff; the Long Valley Cafe at Clint's Well. Where you turn on to Lake Mary Road to go to Flag. On Friday, they have an all you can eat shrimp and fish special that is really quite good. Their cocktail sauce is excellent, and so is the Tartar sauce. The fish ...

Re: Taramasalata

Recipe seems pretty simple, a trip to a Mediterranean deli or Amazon for tarama. The rest of the ingredients are easy. Just drop into a food processor, and you're set.

Due to being restricted to a pad temporarily, I can't paste the link. Just Google taramasalata recipes.

Re: Flagstaff eats?

Trying to post from a new pad, sorry.

If you're going to The Canyon, Fred's Diner at Bedrock Village in Valle (halfway between Williams and The Canyon) is a surprisingly good little diner. Great burgers and specials in a funky 'tourist trap gift shop' atmosphere at a good price.

Re: Flagstaff eats?

Not quite IN Flagsaff But worth the trip, especially if you're doing The Canyon. The restaurant at the Historic Cameron Trading Post. The Navajo Taco is awesome. Just be sure to get the small one. The construction is getting to the point where you can make a left turn when Northbound, so it's a lot ...
