Re: Upcoming Vegas Trip - Aria restaurants, Raku...

I went in December. I would recommend any of these places, bearing in mind that we have some of them in the Valley, too: Crepe Expectations Thai Food to Go (both off-Strip) Buffets at Stratosphere and Bellagio Shake Shack Holstein's Giordano's If a place is still there after a year of operations in ...

I find merit in different types of places: Bagel Man, Chompies, Einstein Bros., and Bagel Nosh are all places I enjoy.

Re: Foodnik Friday 11/18 - Asian Hong Kong Diner @ 11:30 AM

I'd love to, but I have other obligations at that time. All of the food I've had there has been very well made. I highly recommend getting one of the hot pots for those who go there.

Re: Hong Kong Asian Diner

I tried the buffet today, and it's pretty good. A lot of what is offered is the same type of food as at the big Asian buffet restaurants, but the ingredients and preparation are all at least a step above what the competition offers. The hot and sour soup was very good, and so was the shrimp and vege...

Re: San Diego spots?

I highly recommend High Tide Bottle Shop and Kitchen in Coronado. I tried the meat lover's pizza and barbeque chicken pizza, and both were outstanding. I'd put the pizza on the same level as La Grande Orange. They also make their own sodas for the fountain (think Culver's root beer). The black cherr...

Floridino's Pizza & Pasta

This is my favorite place for a calzone. The lunch special of a two-item calzone and a drink for $6 is out of this world. I don't think the menu's claim of world's largest calzone is literally true, but it basically fills the oval plate it is served on. The bread surrounding the filling is wonderful...

Re: San Diego spots?

We are thinking of going to San Diego this Memorial Day weekend. Are there any new recommendations or experiences from the last two years that anyone would like to add to this list? We are especially looking for seafood (probably not sushi), child-friendly, and picky-eater-friendly places (if one re...

Re: Hummus Xpress

I was there sometime in the last year or so. It's a good counter-service Greek place, and the prices were reasonable. I only remember that what I ordered came in a bowl, but I liked it. As mentioned above, it's probably not a destination dining sort of restaurant, but it is a solid choice if you are...

Re: Chengdu Delight Chinese - Foodnik Tue 3/29, 11:30am

Please report on what was good. It is close to where I work, and I may get there someday soon. When I saw there were already 8 for a table of 8, I opted to go to Detroit Coney Grill instead today.

Spinato's pizza is great, and so is the baked spaghetti calzone.

Re: FnB - discuss

The service issues reported earlier in the thread and on Yelp are a concern, but I know that those sorts of things can happen anywhere. The big deterrent is that I am very frustrated by the menu, both the offerings and the actual menu. None of the items on the two sample menus sounds appealing to me...

Tiramisu is not what I usually order, but I had a nice rendition of it at Grimaldi's Chandler over the weekend.

Who is the "she" being referenced? Isn't the owner the man pictured on the website's home page and who is frequently working the lunch rush?

Re: Tott's Asian Diner

Since the above post, Tott's has established itself as one of my favorite restaurants. No matter what I order, it is prepared very well. The portion size and price are both appealing, and each staff member is helpful and friendly. One of my favorites is the Pad Thai. I also like the stir fry, the Ho...

Thailicious

Thailicious is close to work and home, so I checked it out today. My overall experience was favorable. I had the Thai Pepper Steak lunch special with mild heat. It comes with a spring roll (just okay) and big mound of rice. The specials also come with soup and salad. I only tried the hot and sour so...

Re: 2015 Dining Goals/Resolutions

For Chris and others, here is my current list of can't-miss places in town. If a chain is included, it is because my experiences there have always been exceptional. *Abuelo's Barro's Pizza BJ's Carolina's Chino Bandido (if Phoenix location is as good as the now expired Chandler one) *Chou's Kitchen ...

Re: 2015 Dining Goals/Resolutions

CK's is on my list primarily because of location. It may not be the best neighborhood bar, but it is my neighborhood. It has a 4 star Yelp rating, and the menu looks good, so I would like to try it. The only other choice for that area is Hob Nob (I have already tried and liked Tukee's), and their re...

Here is how I did in 2015: Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company - went 2 times, enjoyable but not a knockout Beaver Choice - good but pricey, do not plan to return Chou's Kitchen - amazing, a new favorite Detroit Coney Grill - amazing coneys Henry's Taiwan Kitchen - closed due to non-food issues Ike's...

Re: Tex Mex in Scottsdale?

I don't know if it counts as Tex-Mex, but Tacos & Tequila (the Fox restaurant) in Scottsdale is a lot of fun and has good food.
