Hearing that the space on Roosevelt near 3rd Ave that used to be Centurion would become a place for Asian noodles + cocktails + late night availability had my co-workers and I eager for the opening. It has been a long wait but I'm happy to say that it was worth it! Looking at the Flagstaff original'...

Re: Bitter & Twisted

2+ years later and I finally got around to a second visit. Similar to last time, my feelings are: food -- very enjoyable. Drinks -- fine, but not worth the trip downtown. Ambiance -- still too dim. I admit I'm getting old but still, if it's too dark to tell that the object in the dish alongside the ...

Re: Okra

Ha, thanks! I'd sent him a message on FB and this afternoon he replied with that exact thing. I told him that I currently have a different orange bitters so it wouldn't be quite the same to which he replied "If you're using Fee Brothers' orange just toss it." Ha! I had to sheepishly admit that that ...

Re: Okra

Continuing with the Andrew part of the thread -- I hear he's working at Whitechapel gin bar in San Francisco these days. I'd love to get out there to check out what they're doing.... I am sad that they took his "New Gothic" off the menu at Okra (though I'm guessing they'll still make one if I ask?) ...

Re: Honor Amongst Thieves

We went Monday night. I was apprehensive due to the reviews here, but having read the subsequent review from the "New Times" (http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/restaurants/honor-amongst-thieves-is-a-welcome-addition-to-valleys-cocktail-scene-8392306) I was hopeful. "...a page dedicated to martini varia...

Re: Fresh Mint - Scottsdale

Back when I was dating a vegetarian/vegan (6+ years ago now) we ate at Fresh Mint fairly frequently, despite the fact that it was a bit of a drive. I am not a huge fan of fake meat (generally I figure if I'm going to eat vegetarian, I'm going to eat VEGETABLES) but theirs was always pretty convincin...

Re: Tratto

Boyfriend and I went last week. Kind of spur-of-the-moment -- he called for day-of reservations and was told they were booked about a week out BUT that they save a couple of tables for walk-ins, if we wanted to give it a try. Luckily we were hungry enough for an early dinner so we headed over just a...

Re: Hayden Flour Mills

Yes, thanks so much for posting! As a result my boyfriend and I did the tour last Friday and it was really interesting, informative and fun. Jeff Zimmerman obviously loves what he does, and listening to him talk with passion about what they're doing was delightful. I highly recommend it!

Z's Greek -- first couple of times I went it was really great. 2nd couple of times I went it was forgettable, just-like-everywhere-else. Haven't been back for a tie-breaker.

Re: Okra

As a hardcore introvert, I've always been a little uncomfortable with the idea of being a "regular" anywhere. Like, once I'm recognizable then they know too much about me and I'm not cool with that (ha!). But. I'm happy to say that I'm at a point where I'm able to relax a little and realize the upsi...

Ooooh yeah, those pretzels at Brave Horse are tasty. I've tried all the various dips but find just the pretzel with mustard (there are several kinds from which to choose) is the best bet. I hear the place gets crazy during happy hour with all the Amazon employees; I've been there for brunch a few ti...

Thanks for the info re: parking. Having to pay to park is one of my pet peeves but Nocawich might be worth it.

Also thanks for the info re: new Matt's location. I don't think I knew about that. Good to know!

Re: Foodnik Thursday Breakfast 9/17 - Nocawich 8am

I wish I could!

By the way -- how's parking? I tend to shy away from that whole Mill Ave/ASU area for that reason but I think I'm tempted enough to brave it one of these days.....

The 32nd St. location would've been far more convenient, alas (what has happened with that space? I don't even know).

Re: Okra

2nd visit on Sunday with a friend. It was decadent and delicious. Fried chicken skins again -- they were my friend's favorite of the night. Definitely more than the described "3 or 4 bites" (not complaining!). Plenty for sharing between 2 or even 3 people. Gonna have a hard time not ordering these e...

Dom can probably tell you all more about this (nice first-peek write-up! http://www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/dining/2015/09/02/okra-new-eatery-team-crudo-opens/71396200/) but the folks behind Crudo are opening Okra on 7th St. just south of Bethany Home. They officially debut Sept. 16 and I ...
