Re: La Tiendita Cafe - Colombian

FINALLY got over here, Fennec... sadly, I was only 1 for 3 :-/ Though I wonder if I was a victim of timing or ordering poorly. But that arepa con queso was damn tasty. I need to go back for the empanadas and chicken. Have you had either the arepa choclo or the arroz con pollo, Fennec? Is this typic...

Re: Lobby's Beef Burgers Dogs

lol! I just love their pickles, what can I say? Last time I went I had some cheese fries with sauteed onions on top. Combined with their fry sauce it is a really delicious alternative to In N Out's animal fries! Except it's twice as big as an order of animal fries so I had a little food coma issue b...

Re: La Tiendita Cafe - Columbian

Yes I did mention that up top! :) In Venezuela arepas are typically prepared thicker because they cut them open and stuff them with meat, cheese, etc. In Columbia, arepas are typically thinner and the 'fillings' are served on top. My Arepa and Viva Las Arepas are Venezuelan style, as are Mi Comida R...

La Tiendita Cafe - Colombian

It's so hard to find arepas here. According to Yelp My Arepa is closed, though their website is still up and the attached Roasti's appears to still be open. Don't know what's up with that but their arepas were just average anyway. Mi Comida Restaurante Latino makes cheese and reina pepiada arepas bu...

Re: Payson Area Restaurants

If the Creekside Steakhouse is the place I am thinking of, it's OK. Had a pretty good breakfast burrito there, but we did see a cockroach crawling on the wall. We saw a few while camping the night before by the creek so I'm sure they make their way inside sometimes. The women's bathroom felt like it...

Re: Republica Empanada

I went again about a week ago and got my friend hooked on empanadas :) This time I ordered the tostones hoping they would be as good as the ones at Barroco in Cleveland and they definitely were! Lightly crispy on the outside and the cilantro ranch was delicious. For empanadas, I tried the Jalapeno P...

Re: Zur Kate German Restaurant

Very impressed with the food here. I tried the Rahm Schnitzel and some sausage. The sour cream gravy is so good and the pork was crisp and cooked nicely, not at all dry. It cut easily with a fork. The sausage was tender and tasted great with the sauerkraut and mustard that's on the table. They have ...

Cholla Steakhouse @ Casino Arizona

Despite this being the closest steakhouse to my house and having a solid five star rating on Yelp, I never had any idea that this place existed until recently. I was looking for somewhere to take my friend, who will soon be moving to LA, to dinner, and came across it randomly on Yelp. The menu looke...

Stopped in for lunch and had the lunch special with a Boricua and a Greek empanada. They put a generous amount of filling in each and they weren't at all greasy...I can't believe they fry them! The pork in the Boricua was amazing so I think I need to try the plain Pernil too. The Greek was also real...

Re: Portillo's?

There may be Italian beef salvation not too far from the Tempe Portillo's. I've had word from a couple of people now that Lobby's on the northeast corner of McClintock and Southern has a pretty darn good one. I'm also intrigued by their chili cheese fries topped with bacon and grilled onions for po...

Re: "Seafood" restaurants?

I really like Wildfish. Their chilled gulf shrimp is the best shrimp cocktail I've ever had and their lobster bisque is so so good.

I've been to Salt Cellar and while it's good, I'd rather go to Wildfish at that pricepoint.

If you want a cheesesteak, Cosmi's Deli is my favorite. I tries Steve's and Jim's, the former was not good at all but I did like Jim's, just not as much as Cosmi's. Since they're a deli they have great hoagies, too. They don't have permanent seating but they set up plastic tables and chairs, sometim...

Psycho Suzie's Motor Lounge if you want a greasy, delicious slice of deep dish loaded with cheese. They have burgers and salads and weekend brunch too but I haven't had any of that. It's a tiki bar and they have a great patio.

Different Pointe of View at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio has some of the best views in the city IMO. They have a beautiful patio with a fire pit that I prefer over the indoor dining room. It's gorgeous at sunset. The food is great too and while not exactly cheap, I wouldn't call it prohibitively expens...

Re: Chino Bandido Takee-Outee

This is my go-to eatery when I want to dive into a food coma. It never looks like enough food to render me motionless when I look at it in the metal tin, but I really should stop eating the whole thing at once. I always order a gringo chicken burrito. The meat is dripping with butter so when they wr...

Re: The great pizza debate...

One of my guilty pleasures is their Calzone stuffed with spaghetti. 1000x yes! I don't really eat pizza and don't feel like sampling it from a bunch of places around town so when I do get it I usually just stick with Spinato's since they have great sauce and toppings. I thought spaghetti inside a c...

Only time I've eaten there was at the Family & Friends Dinner. Standouts included the duck fat fries (how can you go wrong with duck fat fries?!), the lamb (so tender and I didn't find it underseasoned), and the peter rabbit cocktail with pimm's. Maybe they were just on their A game for this dinner ...

Re: SalvadoreƱo Restaurant #3

Went to the one on Southern the other day and tried pupusas for the first time and was very impressed! We decided the shrimp was the best tasting out of the carne, shrimp, and pork. Service was kind of slow and we were the only ones there but I wasn't expecting much. I mean, they don't even have a s...
