Re: Valentine

I really wanted to love the elote pasta, but it fell flat for me. Maybe it was a bad night, but lacked seasoning. You absolutely have to check out brunch at Valentine. I know ... brunch. But the pastries!! Seriously fantastic pastries. Had a scone that verged on savoury in the best possible way. And...

Re: Flagstaff recs?

It wasn't so much a bad experience, just not as ... refined as expected for a fine dining experience. Dishes felt half-baked (not literally). I can't remember the specific name of the dish, but I do remember it came with a side of fried chicken. It just didn't make sense to me. Tried a couple of coc...

Best Pizza you'll get is Fat Olives. The white pizza with pistachios, brussel sprouts, and honey is THE one. Foret FLG is my new favourite breakfast/brunch spot. Food is excellent FLG Terroir is a wonderful wine bar. Great selection of wine. Food was great, too. Atria was a big disappointment. Not q...

Mr Baan's have their cocktails down! Hopefully the folks at Huarachis are still just finding their feet.

Re: Source - Urciuoli Doin' His Thing in Gilbert

I was just talking with my husband about missing OG Pa'la something fierce... looks like a trek over to Gilbert is in our future... 100% agree about the stupidity in peoples' pricing perception. I swear I read/heard the same issues being said about 24th St. Pa'la with the plates and cutlery. The foo...

ME TOO. They're basically a cheat code for quick dinners.

Re: Beans!

Primary Beans' beans have helped me skip the need to soak and just patiently cook beans away for a few hours.

Nothing wrong with canned. Canned beans come through in a pinch!

Beans!

Every season is bean season for me. There will never not be a few deli containers of beans ready to go in the fridge for whatever meal. In the past couple of years, we switched to Primary Beans and I highly recommend them! (Candidly, I'm friends with one of the founders of the company but I wouldn't...

Keep an eye on cancellations on the day. I've managed to land a table that way, too!

Re: San Diego recommendations

So, we didn't end up going to Cafe 21. And overall, my mind wasn't blown away by the food scene in SD. I honestly think Phoenix is a sleeper city for some great food! But here are some places that were brilliant: Blind Lady Ale House Great bar with a solid tap list and wonderful bar pizza. Mothershi...
