Krispy Krunchy Chicken

Ok, so I've been eating way too much fried chicken lately from the Krispy Krunchy Chicken in the Shell station at 7th St. and Maryland. I've given it the old "Pepsi Challenge" too -- and at this very moment I think they're doing the best "fast food" fried chicken in Central Phoenix for sure.

Re: SoSoBa

I can attest that it's still a great place for noodles -- my favorite being the Tantanmen, with udon noodles substituted for the ramen.

Re: A Pho Battle Royale

FWIW, I'm not surprised by Pho Avina. . . I've not heard good things since :-/ Interesting that you say that Dom, because I get out to Banner Thunderbird a fair amount these days, and the last couple of times that I have intended to lunch at Pho Avina I've gone to the Korean place next door. Can't ...

Re: Old Town Sarajevo - West Side Bosnian

This is in my regular father/son rotation when I have to watch the Boy by myself. It's not only delicious, but also a very easy place to take a 19-month old. It's fun for me to see him interact with the Slavs who frequent the place, as they're super interactive with him. A large cevapi is plenty to ...

Re: Maizies - closed

Maizie's was always "good with potential to be much better" -- I liked it in AZLobo parlance: "I'd go with others, but I wouldn't go by myself." All that said, I agree that it had a good run, and I hope the next restaurant in that space is as good if not better.

Depends on the time of day of course but I'd give myself a half-hour regardless

Get a Sazerac at the Roosevelt Hotel and a Gin Fizz at the Monteleone's rotating bar.

Cabela's in Glendale has a pretty large meat preparation section with lots of curing stuff. I'd suggest calling them and asking.

Re: Pho Thanh

By the way, this place has now expanded again. It is now triple the size of the hole in the wall I was the first to review on Yelp back in 2009. I went with a friend for lunch today. Same as it ever has been -- solid. Crowded these days -- the parking lot's still the same size; I have no idea where ...

Re: Miracle Mile Deli

I hadn't been to the new location so swung by there a couple of weeks ago. I had a mean craving for a corned beef and chopped liver sandwich on rye. They don't have chopped liver anymore. I cannot express how angry that made me. I know it's irrational and likely market-driven, but a deli without cho...

Sichuan, szechuan, or szechwan

If anyone asks why this group is the "Food Nerds" this is exhibit A (actually example #1,453). HA! But seriously, I suggest picking one spelling and being consistent. They're all technically "correct" insofar as the answer to the question "what's the correct way to render the number forty-six?" can...

Sichuan, szechuan, or szechwan

Sichuan (actually Sichuãn) is the Hanyu Pinyin Romanization. There are other systems for Romanizing Chinese, but I believe Hanyu Pinyin is the one officially recognized by the Chinese government. Yeah. I personally love the Wade-Giles spellings, but that's just because I'm a curmudgeon and I love o...

Phoenix Ice Cream Shops

We've found ourselves taking the Boy to AZPops on at least a bi-weekly basis most of the summer. Not exactly ice cream, but always fun.
