Anniversary Eats

I am coming in from Chicago to visit family. My wife and I are taking one day away to celebrate an anniversary. We will have a car and are staying at the Andaz. I am looking for a really great place for a special meal. The last time we did this we went to Virtu and had a great time.

Thanks in advance for the recommendation. Here are some things that may help you narrow things down:

It should be an upscale place, but it doesn't have to be dressy. The important thing is great food and a nice atmosphere.

Prix Fixe is not always an advantage as my wife doesn't like seafood and doesn't eat all meat. We have gone to Alinea in Chicago and other fancy places that can work around her restrictions, but it isn't always easy. I ruled Cafe Monarch out for this reason.

Hip, trendy places are great, but we'd prefer not to eat at a place that has really loud music with a club type vibe. Music is great, but I want to be able to talk over it.

Also, while we love a good steakhouse, we are going to Maple and Ash another night during our trip. Side note: If you haven't heard about it, it is a steakhouse transplant from Chicago, opening now. It is one of our special occasion places here, and if it winds up being similar, I can't recommend it enough. Sexy, over the top food and service, done by a guy who earlier in his career earned two Michelin stars.

Any help you can give would be great.

Kai @Wildhorse is always great for special nights. Different Pointe of View is also nice.

I'll ditto Cristen.

We went to Tratto last anniversary. And if you're not looking for out of the world views (Elements) or white glove service (Kai), it's perfect.

The food is amazing. The cocktails are amazing. Service is wonderful. And when you say it doesn't have to be dressy, that also suggests Tratto too. I mean it is very nice too but it's not self important or trying to be fancy for fancy's sake.

Those others are great too but I'd definitely rec Tratto...

And if you like cocktails and amari, all the better!

All are good suggestions but I would throw FnB into the mix as well. Really interesting, imaginative dishes, great AZ wine list and outstanding service. It's certainly not fancy but it's just upscale enough without any hint of pretension.

Totally! FnB is a fantastic restaurant and one of my absolute favorites too.

Man, reading this and I'm getting homesick.
